Mnyika vows to end Ubungo water woes

Ubungo constituency Member of Parliament John Mnyika announced yesterday he plans to form a special committee which will formulate and oversee implementation of appropriate strategies for ending chronic problems of water in the area.

Addressing his first public rally after being elected as the constituency MP in the 2010 general elections, Mnyika said yesterday that water was one of his top agendas in his “long-journey” to solve people’s problems.

He said that the committee would comprise people from Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Corporation (Dawasco), ministry of water and irrigation, and academicians.

“I know there are many problems facing this area, but water is a critical problem. That is why I have decided to form a special committee which will come with suggestions on how to solve this problem,” said Mnyika.

He said his office was currently collecting views of people on problems facing Ubungo constituency, and would later on present them to the government through parliamentary sessions.

According to the Ubungo MP, about 5m/- has been allocated by Kinondoni Municipal authority for construction of a police post at Kimara Msewe in a bid to control the rising wave of crimes in the area.

Mnyika mentioned other problems facing residents of Ubungo constituency as lack of a market, poor road infrastructures, increasing crime and environmental pollution.
